COVID-19 Message for CCA members

Published April 10, 2020

Your Board of Directors met recently to discuss the possible effects of the COVID 19 emergency on the CCA. There are several areas where this emergency could affect our association if it extends into our summer months:

  • - We may have to cancel our recreational programs
  • - Our annual general meeting may have to be held online
  • - Our financial year will very likely run a deficit

These are not major problems as compared to the devastation COVID 19 has had on our personal lives and those that have been exposed.

Our primary strategy is to make decisions that make sure we keep members as safe as possible. As an example, if the Public Health Authorities recommend that we do not socialize and keep up with physical distancing after the emergency is lifted as good practice, we will cancel the recreational programs.

As things are changing daily, the board will be monitoring the situation and calling ad hoc board meetings to make decisions when necessary. We will provide communications to all members as updates that effect the CCA become available. Attached are two press releases issued by the Township of Georgian Bay that address the current situation in Honey Harbour and surrounding areas. We believe that the right thing to do is follow the lead of the Township of Georgian Bay and the District of Muskoka.

At this point the board does not feel we need to make a decision on our summer programs. As we get closer to summer we will establish some key milestone dates for when to make those decisions.

I know everybody is anxious to get to their cottages. This is frustrating for us all but at this point staying safe and keeping healthy is of the highest priority. A gentle reminder, this time last year most of us could not get to our cottages until early May because of ice.

And to end things on a positive note the Cottager is proceeding nicely and will be printed and mailed out shortly. Hopefully it will help us feel connected to our piece of paradise amongst the islands as we read it.

Stay safe.

Tom
